Who Are We?
Dog lovers, just like you guys! Where did this huge adoration for these four legged poop eating love bugs come from? For some, loving dogs comes as naturally as breathing—an easy connection formed through joy, comfort, and unconditional acceptance.
In my case, it was something I had to nurture over time. My first experience with dogs’ wasn’t a good one; I was bitten when I was around two years old, and it planted a deep rooted fear of dogs within me for years to come. Through consistent exposure of these wonderful creatures, I came to the conclusion that dogs act from a place of instinct, not malice.
Dogs can be mischievous and downright knuckle heads some days or most...and it’ll feel overwhelming and frustrating to be in the same room with them those days. However, labeling dogs as “bad” or “terrible listeners” isn’t addressing the problem at hand; it is simply is projecting our inner frustrations and misunderstandings onto them. That isn’t fair to them nor you.
To be better with our dogs, we ourselves need to be better. What do I mean by that? Developing a deeper understanding of our dog’s psychology and finding ways to effectively communicate with them is the key. They are dependent on us, they have evolved to be man’s best friend. We need to step up our game and meet them in the middle. Let’s create a world where this finally happens. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just a misunderstood one.
